Jaye's Latest

Jayelle is learning new things lately, and I thought I better share some of them with you:

1. Animal Sounds-
Last week she suprised me while we were reading her story bible that she could do a few new animal sounds. Erin- "Jaye do you know what a donkey says?" Jaye- "Hee Haw" Erin- "Wow that is great." Jaye (pointing to the sheep) "Baaa" Then yesterday she picked up her stuffed horse and said "Neigh."

2. Everything is Baby-
Jaye loves babies. She loves to say "baby," read bible stories about babies, point out babies in strollers, push around babies in strollers, wash her bath baby, and even look at our friend's posted baby pictures on facebook. When Dave asked her if she wanted a baby sister or brother she said "Yeah!"

3. Dizzy
Her new thing lately is turning in circles round and round, and it is even more fun when you have the music on!

4. Berenstain Bears
I loved the Berenstain bears when I was a kid. I collected the books and loved the exhibit at Cedar Point amusement park. Jaye has fallen in love with the books as well, and we read the three books we own over and over again! I love the lessons learned from the bear family who live down a Sunny dirt road! Jayelle has learned to say Papa because of the books and it is great because that is what she calls my dad, so it is pretty cute to hear her say "Papa," on the phone to him. And I just found their website online, which told me that they are making a new movie directed by the same guy who did Night at the Museum. Fun!

5. Potty Training
We have started the initial stages of potty training and yesterday was a great success when Jayelle walked into the bathroom and sat on the potty all by herself. We didn't mind that she still had her pants and diaper still on. It was great that she was starting to recognize that she needed to use the potty. She then went three more times on the potty (with our help) and even asked to go twice by showing us the sign and saying it aloud. (by the way she used the American Sign for potty. . .not the English, which we discovered not too long ago was very similar to flipping someone off).

6. Singing
I need to catch this on video sometime, but Jayelle is starting to sing different tunes. Some of the tunes are baby talk and some are words to nursery rhymes! I love when she sings it is beautiful! Her favorite nursery rhymes are Row Row Row Your Boat and Round and Round the Garden.

7. Independance
Along with growing up, you want to gain some independance. Jaye is starting to show preferences in many things such as: what shoes she is going to wear each day (a lot of time it is her boots), what she wants to eat or drink, and which book we are going to read.

8. Cleaning
Jayelle loves to help in cleaning. If she has a cup out she will make sure it is put back in the fridge when she is finished, and yesterday we caught her mopping the kitchen floor with a sponge. She doesn't mind cleaning up her toys and we sing the "Clean Up" song each time she helps me out. I hope this phase lasts!

9. Association and Memory

I am starting to have mini bible and school lessons with her during the day. Yesterday we learned about Daniel in the lions den and then sang a song related to the bible story. I was very pleased today when I asked her if she wanted to learn some more about Daniel today that she started to dance when I said it. This showed me she had began a memory of the lesson(we danced to the song). Another thing she did yesterday was actually eat strawberries (she had refused to try them for the longest time). This was a great feat, but it was even better when she pointed out to me the decorative plates that are on our kitchen wall of strawberries.

So cute Erin. It's so fun watching them learn knew things. What are the Bible songs you are teaching her? I need to learn more. Drew loves Jesus loves me, but a lot of the songs have tons of words so he doesn't learn them as quickly. Let me know which ones you sing to Jaye!

Hi Kristi,
Before I left for Scotland I bought a collection of children's bible songs. There was like 150 songs, and most of them I didn't know. Some are pretty cheesy, but kids like cheesy sometimes. The song Jaye was listening to was "Dare to be Daniel" which is a little old for her as far as learning the words, but she knew that the song said "Daniel" which she associates with the story of Daniel now and she will ask to dance which means please play this particular song. Some of the more age appropriate songs are: "The Animals Went in Two by Two, Them Bones, Who Did Swallow Jonah and 1,2,3 Jesus Loves me (Jaye likes this last song because of the counting). I bought the collection at Walmart for only 5 dollars if I remember correctly. Hope this helps.
