In November just after the American Thanksgiving holiday the Scottish people celebrate St. Andrew's Day. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland because he brought the gospel to the country. During this holiday the historical buildings are open to the public for free, so we took advantage of the opportunity and visited the castle of Edinburgh and Jayelle and I visited the Palace of Holyrood and the Queens Gallery when Dave was at school. The castle has had many functions in history (a castle, a prison, the birth place of kings, a place of many battles), but is currently a housing place for soldiers. The palace has been housing quarters for many of the royals, and is currently a place of vacationing for the Queen in the summer. I really loved getting the audio tour because it brought more life to the castle than just walking around and reading signs. The first four pictures below are from the castle and the second two are from the palace. I couldn't take more pictures inside the building at the palace.
