Wallace Family Zoo Trip

While at my parent's house we visited the Wallace Family Zoo.  SOme of you may have seen it on the Discovery Channel.  We visited it last time I had visited my parent's house, but this was Dave's first time.  My mom and I have decided it is the closest we may ever get to a safari.  They have all sorts of animals and lots of interaction with the animals.  The zoo takes in lots of abandoned/rescued animals and is also very successful in breeding.  While we were there we got to pet lots of baby animals some of which were: a baby chimp, a baby tiger, a baby piglet, a baby South American raccoon.   We even got to see a mommy hyena in labor and then her little pup an hour later (we had no idea she was in labor until an hour later it was announced she had given birth.  However we did think she was acting strange- digging a hole.)  She was going to have twins but we were too impatient to see the next birth.  The zoo is wild in many ways the zoo keepers feed all the animals in front of you (including all the big cats) so you get to see how the dominance plays out in the animals.  It is a ton of fun!  We had a blast.  I still think it is the best zoo I have ever been to.

last year's hyena pup had to be removed from the rest while the mommie was giving birth for the new one's safety.  He was pacing and pacing and making all sorts of hyena noises.

The zookeeper showing Rett the cub.   He howled with the wolves earlier. . .too funny.  We caught it on video too!

You can see how close we can get to the animals (the barbary lion cage is right behind us).
